Kino Shorts Event - Latest News
GREEN ROOM 8th July 2008
The event on 8th July was another outstanding success echoeing the fact that Kino is Back"
With over a 50% capacity audience at the Greenroom for Kino's first short film night in Manchester for over 2 years, everyone had an enjoyable and rewarding experience. All but one of the filmmakers attended (Abbe Robinson director of "Private Life" was unfortunately unable to attend due to illness) and participated in a question and answer session after each film. The bar was the place to be after the screening were filmmakers networked until the early hours of the morning.
Thanks to all the filmmakers for screening their films and attending the night. Congratulations to David Schofield, Lewis Metcalfe and Kurt Brookes, the team behind the outstanding and excellent films "Ryan" and "Fight". Kino Director, John Wojowski commented; "these guys are fresh from their graduation today and deserve real praise for these films. By far, they are the most accomplished and untraditional short films produced in Manchester in years - on budgets ranging from just £700 to £1400. In three years time I would put money on these guys producing an equally outstanding feature film. Future talent to look out for!"

Kino is Back with a Special Feature Screening on 6th June
Manchester’s Kinofilm Festival is back with a series of MONTHLY feature and short film screenings commencing in June with the North West produced feature “Diary of a Bad Lad” (18).
Special pre-release screening of “Diary of a Bad Lad” (18) with Q & A.
Friday 6 June 8.00pm
The Greenroom, 54-56 Whitworth St West, Manchester M1 5WW
Admission: £5.00 (Full Price), £3.00 (Concession)
Advance Bookings: 0161 615 0500
The idea behind this latest season of Kino screenings is to highlight the wealth of talent in the North West currently producing low budget feature films. With a number of features produced in the region over the last couple of years – most are without funding and never see light of day. There are presently several such features nearing completion, all made on miniscule budgets and completed through the goodwill and support of friends and colleagues within the industry.
“Diary of a Bad Lad” from Blackburn filmmakers Michael Booth and Jon Williams is one of those very rare films. A gritty Northern expose, which breaks the boundaries of traditional story telling, reaching new levels of independent filmmaking.
Kino Director John Wojowski says; “this is by far one of the best independent features I have personally seen from the North West in over 15 years and is very different than the excellent but standard formulae of the current latest indie Brit flick IN BRUGES. Booth and Williams came out of nowhere and produced a film, which left a lasting impression on me – this is raw film making in the purest sense – a film that needs to be seen”.
